Our Sustainability Commitment

At The Scarf Giraffe, we believe that small, practical changes can make a meaningful difference. As a family-run business, we are continually looking for ways to reduce waste, use less unnecessary plastic and make more responsible choices across our products, packaging and day-to-day operations.

More Thoughtful Products

Our popular foldable sun hats are made from 100% paper, offering a practical and reusable alternative to traditional materials. Across our wider collection, we also focus on accessories designed to be worn, enjoyed and reused season after season.

Reducing Packaging Waste

We have worked hard to reduce unnecessary packaging throughout the business. Around 99% of our packaging is biodegradable, with the remaining 1% recyclable, and we have removed plastic from our hat and scarf labelling.

Within the business, we use a three-tier system for composting, recycling and general waste to help keep as much material as possible out of general waste.

Reducing Plastic in Transport Packaging

We originally set ourselves an ambitious target to reduce the plastic used in transport packaging by 80%. So far, we have achieved a reduction of approximately 50%.

There is still more to do. We are continuing to work with our suppliers and review how products reach us, with the aim of reducing unnecessary plastic wherever it is practical to do so.

10,000 Trees Planted

In 2024, we funded the planting of 10,000 trees as part of our wider commitment to making a positive environmental contribution.

Keeping the Momentum Going

Sustainability is not something we consider finished. We will continue to review our packaging, materials, waste and supply chain, making further improvements where we realistically can.

We would rather be open about the progress we have made and the work still to do than make promises we cannot support. As The Scarf Giraffe grows, we want responsible choices to remain part of the way we do business.
